Last Luncheon of Semester will be at the Clarice Center on December 4th

We'll meet for lunch at 11:30 at the Applause Café and be joined at noon by a representative from the Center who will let us know the latest news. Then we'll have a backstage tour.

Nine plus two guests

Today's big surprise was that Addie Beatty joined us. Everyone seemed pleased to see her, and I think she enjoyed herself. The other guest was Sean McGoey, a young man who's making a video about the Golden ID program for his work on a Masters Degree.

Twelve + one

We had twelve at the luncheon plus Victoria Gorska-Rabuk who didn't get out of class in time for the gathering but ran into Karen Eckert and me as we were leaving the Student Union.

Nice to see Mike Benefiel who was out of the program for three semesters but who is back.

By the way, I erroneously told a few people today that the next luncheon is November 29. Not so. The correct date is Thursday, November 21. I shouldn't have relied on my memory.

A small group yesterday

Only five of us, but a good time. Benson and I treated ourselves to ice cream from the dairy. Nice seeing Fran Steiner who came for the first time this semester, I believe.

Welcome to Fran, Noel, Margaret, and Butch

We met four newcomers at Thursday's luncheon. Noel Salinger and Margaret Dadian are both taking a history class on the American Revolution. I have to add that Noel was the nephew of Pierre Salinger who was President Kennedy's Press Secretary. Fran Schultz is also taking a history class, but his is on the Ottoman Empire. Butch Carroll is taking accounting which he says he decided upon in order to keep track of his winnings for the six race horses he owns a percentage of, but he adds with a laugh that so far there haven't been any victories.

May 1 Luncheon interrupted by Fire Alarm

Alice Klages, Susan Harris, Matt Koch, Karen Eckert and myself were talking and eating when the alarm went off, and so we filed out of the Student Union with everyone else. After a while outside, we noticed people were entering the building, and we returned. Mike Hayes joined us. Although there was an actual fire elsewhere on campus that day, I'm pretty sure our alarm went off by mistake.

As part of the semester's first Cabaret performances, Maureen sang two solos.

She also sang two duets with another student. There will be another performance next month that we'll announce beforehand because I'm sure it will be as enjoyable as this one.

Spring Semester 2019 First Luncheon

Golden ID student's involvement in local theater

At yesterday's semester break luncheon, Maureen Roult told us of her recent activities. She's designing hair and makeup and working backstage for Silver Spring Stage's production of "equivocation," which runs through Saturday, Feb 2. It's said to be an excellent piece of community theater--lots of comedy with some very human movements and some high drama. Tickets are $25, or $22 for students and seniors. Maureen is also in rehearsal for the Victorian Lyric Opera Company's production of Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Gondoliers." She's designing hair and makeup for that one too, in addition to being in the ensemble. That show runs two weekends, Feb 22 - Mar 3. Tickets are $28 for adults, $24 for seniors, and $20 for students.
